Botox®
- Many wrinkles are actually creases that have been formed by making the same expression thousands of times. “Expression lines” of the face including frown lines, forehead wrinkles, and crow's feet, are due to the repetitive contraction of a muscle under the skin in that area.
- Botox® acts to relax the muscle responsible for creating the wrinkle.
- What is Botox®?
Botox® is a purified protein (Botulinum toxin) produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It works as a nerve impulse "blocker", binding to nerve endings and preventing the release of chemical transmitters that activate the muscle. Very small amounts are placed to achieve the desired effects. Although Botox® is a toxin, it is an extremely safe product with over 20 years of clinical experience when used for aesthetic purposes. In addition, it is the most common cosmetic procedure currently undertaken in the United States for facial enhancement. Women who are pregnant, lactating, or patients with neuromuscular functional disorders should not receive Botox® injections. - BOTOX® injections are performed at our upper East Side Office in a matter of minutes . The full effect of the treatment is apparent within five days or less, and usually lasts three to six months, before full muscle movement returns.
